Why does my fryer switch off during cooking?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 12:56 PM

If the fryer stops before the food is ready, the cause is often overheating protection, a poor power connection or a set temperature that has not been reached consistently. The manuals for these models show indicator lights, thermostats and in some cases heat-resistant housings, which suggests the appliance is designed to manage heat, but it should still be treated carefully if it cuts out unexpectedly. fileciteturn0file4turn0file10

  1. Unplug the fryer and let it cool fully. If the appliance is hot, do not restart it immediately.
  2. Check the plug and cord for any sign of damage or looseness. A poor connection can cause the fryer to cut out. If damage is visible, stop using it.
  3. Confirm that the fryer is not blocked by nearby items and has space around it for heat to dissipate.
  4. Reduce the batch size and try again once the fryer is cool, as overloading can make the unit work harder and may trigger protection.
  5. Watch the indicator lights, if fitted, to see whether the appliance is actually heating again after cooling down. If it repeatedly switches off at the same point, the fault is likely not a simple setting issue.

If the fryer switches off, smells burnt, makes unusual noises or becomes too hot to touch, stop using it. Do not bypass any safety device or leave the appliance unattended while troubleshooting. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
