Why does my air conditioner leak water onto the floor?

Water on the floor can come from a full tank, a loose drain stop or a drainage path that is not set up correctly. Because the appliance uses water collection and mains electricity, stop using it immediately if water has reached the plug, socket or power lead. If the leak is large or you cannot safely isolate the unit, unplug it first.

1. Switch the air conditioner off and unplug it before touching the unit.
2. Check the bottom drain point for a loose or missing stop.
3. What to expect: a secure drain stop should prevent water escaping once it is refitted properly.
4. Empty the water tank and confirm that it is not overfilled.
5. What to expect: after draining, the tank level should fall and the leak should stop.
6. If a hose is connected for continuous drainage, make sure it runs downward without lifting upwards.

8. Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface and check whether it was tilted.
